Procedure for Export

Stage 1. Licenses

Export must be a holder of one of the following Licenses:

  • Sawmill License
  • Timber Dealers License
  • Timber Dealers License ( Export Only )
  • Timber Dealers License ( Consolidated Log Export)
  • Charcoal/ Firewood License ( Export Only )

Stage 2. Independent Timber Grading

  1. All produce to be exported has been graded in accordance with the Guyana Timber Grading Rules for Hardwoods (2002) by a GFC licensed timber grader.
  2. The grader’s mark has been affixed on all produce intended to be exported and stated on the Timber Marketing Certificate, Application for Export Certification and Application for Export of Forest Produce.

Step 3. GFC Verification Grading.

  • The Export package which includes the Timber Marketing Certificate (TMC) is submitted to the GFC and a Grading Inspector (GI) conducts a verification inspection of the forest produce within.

          Outcomes

1.

  • The GI concurs with the grades of the independent grading exercise

Or

  • The GI disputes the grades assigned by the independent timber grader.

2.

  • The GI  Completes the TMC and returns to the exporter

Or

  • The GI informs the Exporter and the grader of necessary recommended changes and to make same to the TMC. When the changes are made, the GI completes the TMC.

Stage 4. Guyana Forestry Commission Documentation Processing.

Exporter then submits the following for GFC processing:

  1. Application for Timber Marketing Certificate (2 copies )
  2.  Application for Timber Export Certification (2 copies )
  3.  Application for Export of Forestry Produce (2 copies )
  4.  Commercial/ CARICOM Invoice (4 copies)
  5.  Proof of origin documents, and packing list (for logs/piles)

NB.GFC RETAINS 1 COPY OF EACH DOCUMENT SPECIFIED, EXCEPT THE COMMERCIAL INVOICE WHERE WE RETAIN 2 COPIES.

Document Verification by the GFC entrails the following checks:

  1. Proof of origin of produce (bills, receipts, permits, etc.).
  2. Export Commission payable to the GF.
  3. Price Validation
  4. Valid Contracts.

One (1) authorized GFC management personnel sign s the documents for release to the

Exporter or any person authorized by the exporter, the export document can be uplifted once export commission is paid.

The Export Unit then verifies and approves the export declaration in ASYCUDA WORLD once it corresponds with what was approved by GFC.

Points to Note for Exporters

1. GFC Procedure(s) for acquiring the requisite licenses are available in the Procedure for Issuance a Sawmill License and Procedure for Issuance a Timber Dealers/Charcoal/Firewood Consolidated log export License.

2. Issued Timber Marketing Certificate is valid for 60 days.

3. Export Commission payable for forest produce varies in accordance with the stipulations of the National Log Export Policy.
